Making Miracles with Spare Change

Between Black Friday and Christmas, Ace Hardware stores across the country raise funds for their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital by asking customers to round up at the register. In 2019, over 1,300 Ace stores raised more than $1.2 million – averaging $934 per store! In Chicago, 74 stores united to raise $66,701 to support the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and Department of Family Services at Lurie Children’s.

Through generous support from Duracell, an Ace Hardware vendor partner, stores across the nation competed in two separate groups to win extra donations for their local CMN Hospital – one group of stores that had done round up fundraising before and another group that were trying it for the first time. Lurie Children’s was proud to receive a total of $17,500 from Duracell due to the success of the following stores:

  • #1 – Whitmore Ace Hardware Manhattan: 71.20% of transactions rounded up
  • #2 – Whitmore Ace Hardware Mokena: 66.75% of transactions rounded up
  • #4 – Ziegler’s Ace-Lake in the Hills: 64.50% of transactions rounded up
  • #6 – Roselle Ace Hardware: 63.74% of transactions rounded up

New to Round Up

  • #19 – Barrington Ace Hardware: 28.35% of transactions rounded up

Additionally, Lurie Children’s hosts the Ace Hardware Round Up Bracket Challenge, which puts stores head-to-head against each other competing to see who can get the highest percent of round up donations of total transactions. The Bracket Champion receives the Ace Hardware traveling trophy, custom championship t-shirts and a pizza party celebration with a Lurie Children’s patient family at their store! The runner up stores receive an ice cream sundae, root beer float or donut party at their store!

The 2019 winner of the bracket challenge was Whitmore Ace Hardware Manhattan, which defended its 2018 Championship, and the runner up stores were Whitmore Ace Hardware Mokena, Ziegler’s Ace Hardware Lake in the Hills, and Roselle Ace Hardware.

Congratulations to all Ace Hardware retailers in Chicago and across the country who dedicated their holiday season to helping local kids and thank you from everyone at Lurie Children’s.
